Five Million Steps Commentary: Adventure Along the Appalachian Trail

The wilderness will teach you--you have to be a friend to yourself first. Live a balanced life.
Friendship cannot get any better than walking with God in the cool of the evening or at the
break of day. There is the companionship of strangers going for the same goal post on
the mountain trail. There is respect. There is intrigue. There is connection to most you find
there. Add the companionship you'll have in town when you meet people who will show
you kindness and hospitality when you are living in simplicity out of a backpack. Finally,
there may be a few companions that you invite to share the rigors of the trail. It's all good.

I'm a good friend of Jeff, here in Little Rock, Arkansas. He recommended your book, "Five Million Steps" and I just wanted to say thanks for writing such a cool book. I've thru-hiked most of the trails in the US and found your perspective to be very refreshing. I found salvation (with Jeff's help) a little over a year ago and love it that someone else can find such closeness with our Father in nature. I've been having a lot of really strong pulls towards mission work... Anyways, thanks again! God bless your determination and willingness to share your experiences! -Patrik
